Bridgewater State Takes Two From Softball

Framingham, MA - The Bridgewater State College softball team remained unbeaten in Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action today as they swept a conference doubleheader against Framingham State in Framingham today.  The Bears took the first game 3-1 and in the second came from behind to pick up the 5-4 win.  With the win, the Bears improve to 14-14 on the season and 6-0 in the MASCAC, while the Rams fall to 9-14 on the season and 3-3 in the MASCAC.

In the game one, the Bears scored two runs in the first inning on RBI singles from outfielders Allie LeBlanc (Somerset, MA) and Meghan Noyes (Stoughton, MA) to take the lead for good.  The Rams cut the lead in half in the third inning as junior first baseman Liz Ranton (Milton, MA) led off the inning with a single to left and scored on an RBI single by junior shortstop Katelyn Pacheco (New Bedford, MA).  The Bears added an insurance run in the sixth inning as LeBlanc walked, was sacrificed to second and scored on a throwing error.

Sophomore Jamie Ducinski (Duxbury, MA) picked up the win in game one as she allowed one run on five hits while striking out four.  Alyssa Verronneau (Acushnet, MA) picked up the save as she pitched three innings of scoreless relief.  Senior Kelly Knox (Framingham, MA) went the distance for the Rams allowing three runs (0 earned runs) on eight hits while striking out four.  Junior third baseman Colleen Clancy (Lynn, MA) was 3 for 4 for the Rams in game one.

The Rams took a 3-0 lead in the first inning of game two on back to back RBI triples from Andrea DiTerlizzi (Shrewsbury, MA) and Rachel Timmons (Malden, MA) and an RBI single by Missy Howard (Dudley, MA).  The Bears scored a single run in the third and rallied for four runs in the fourth to take the lead 5-3.  The Rams scored a single run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI triple by Clancy  to cut the deficit to 5-4.  The Bears held on for the win as they retired nine of the last 11 batters for the Rams.

Ducinski picked up the win for the Bears in game two as she pitched five innings of relief allowing one earned run and two hits.  Knox picked up the loss in game two allowing two runs on six hits. 

Both teams return to MASCAC action on Tuesday as the Rams host Salem State at 2:30 p.m., while the Bears host Massachusetts Maritime Academy at 3 p.m.
