Softball Takes Two From Johnson & Wales

East Providence, R.I. - The Johnson & Wales softball team dropped two games in a non-conference double header against Framingham State at Pierce Field on Wednesday afternoon.  Framingham State posted a 9-0 win in the opener and finished the day with a 16-4 victory in the nightcap.

In the opener, Framingham State jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the top of the first, including a two run single by junior Liz Ranton (Milton, MA).  The visiting Rams then notched two runs in the second inning with a solo home run by junior Rachel Timmons (Malden, MA) en route to the 9-0 victory.  Timmons was 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI in the win for Framingham State.  Senior Kelly Knox (Framingham, MA) and junior Sarah Douillette (Lakeville, MA) combined for the one hit shutout victory for the Rams. 

In the nightcap, Framingham State jumped out to an 8-0 advantage after the first three innings of play.  The wildcats cut the lead to 8-1 in the bottom of the third and made the score 10-4 after a three run home run by senior Kerry Cotter (Nashua, NH).  The visiting Rams responded, however and tallied two in the fifth and six more in the sixth to take the 16-4 victory.  Cotter was 1-for-3 with one run and three RBI in the setback for JWU.  Freshman Andrea DiTerlizzi (Shrewsbury, MA) was 3-for-5 with three runs and an RBI in the win for Framingham State.

The Wildcats are now 1-16 for the year while Framingham State improves to 5-10.  JWU will return to action on Friday, April 4th when they travel to Albertus Magnus for a GNAC double header, starting at 6 p.m., while the Rams travel to MCLA on Saturday at 1 p.m.
