Two Late Goals Send Clark By Men’s Soccer
Worcester, Mass. – Host Clark University scored both of the game's second half goals, snapping a 1-1 halftime tie on their way to a 3-1 win over Framingham State in non-league men's soccer action on a chilly Wednesday night.
With the win for the Cougars improve to 14-3 while the Rams fall to 7-10.
The Scarlet and White got on the board first when a corner kick was served into the box and Framingham State goalkeeper Josh Arno (Natick, Mass.) was able to punch the ball out, but it went right to Ethan Ziemba (Glen Gardner, N.J.) who directed his second goal of the season into the back of the net at 15:55.
Things stayed that way until the Rams evened the score late in the first half. On a corner kick of their own, the ball bounced around some and eventually went to Razak Boateng (Worcester, Mass.), who sent a header towards the goal that wasn't handled by the Cougars and found its way to a wide open Charlie Huffman (Lynn, Mass.) who tapped home the equalizer in the 41st minute.
After nearly 30 minutes of scoreless play in the second half, Clark got a pair of goals five minutes apart to put the game away. First, a turnover in the midfield by the Rams led to Mana Chavali (Brookline, Mass.) slotting a pass by the Framingham State defense to a streaking Zack Blais (Tiverton, R.I.) who settled the ball and beat Arno with a blast into the far right side of the goal at 72:47.
Minutes later the Cougars were on the board again, this time courtesy of a pair of freshmen. Blais won a header sending the ball deep into the Ram zone, and after the ball was played back to Arno, Sean Munroe (Silver Spring, Md.) put pressure on him forcing a turnover that went right to Trevor Sheridan (Massapequa, N.Y.). Sheridan made a move to shake free from a defender and took a few dribbles before sending a pass to Munroe at the top of the box who slipped a shot underneath a diving Arno for the final marker of the night.
The Rams return to action when they travel to MCLA on Saturday, October 29th for a pivotal MASCAC matchup to close regular season play.
