Men’s Soccer Blanked by Mass. Maritime

Framingham, Mass. – The Massachusetts Maritime men's soccer team moved into the top spot in the MASCAC standings with a 2-0 victory this evening over Framingham State University in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Maple Street Field.

With the win, the Buccaneers improve to 7-7-1 on the year and 4-1-1 in the league with one conference game remaining.  The Rams fall to 6-9 overall and 3-3 in the league.

The Buccaneers grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute of action.  Sophomore William Taylor (Hanover, Mass.) carried the ball behind the Rams defense drawing the keeper off the line.  Taylor laid a pass off to freshman Justin Le (Springfield, Mass.) who was alone in front of the net and connected for his first goal of the season.

The Rams had a chance at the equalizer in the 29th minute when senior Mitchell Osgood (Salem, Mass.) fired a shot from 20 yards out that sailed just high.  Mass. Maritime nearly doubled the lead with four minutes remaining in the frame, but the goal was negated on an offsides call.

The Bucs added an insurance goal in the 58th minute shot in the box by Taylor.

The Buccaneers outshot the Rams 19-13 with both teams taking three corners.  Junior Mike Pruchnik (Rochester, Mass.) earned the victory in net for the Bucs making five saves.  Junior Josh Arno (Natick, Mass.) took the loss for the Rams making five saves in a half of work, while freshman Dennis Siaw (Leominster, Mass.) made five saves in relief.

The Rams are back in action on Wednesday evening at Clark at 7 p.m., while the Bucs host UMass Boston on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
