Pair of Late Goals Lift Bridgewater Over Men’s Soccer

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University men's soccer team surrendered a pair of goals in the second half just 17 seconds apart as the Rams were defeated 2-1 by Bridgewater State University in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Maple Street Field.

With the win, the Bears improve to 3-5-1 on the year and 2-1 in the conference, while the loss drops the Rams to 5-5 overall and 2-1 in the league.

After a scoreless first half, the Rams grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 56th minute of play as sophomore Ken Stahovish (Springfield, Mass.) converted on a feed from sophomore Simon Appiah (Worcester, Mass.) in the box for the his 4th of the season.

The lead would stand until the 75th minutes when the Bears put two markers on the board.  Sawyer Fleck (Foxboro, Mass.) sent a corner into the box and Prince Collins (Boston, Mass.) got off a shot that deflected off a Ram defender and into the net for an own goal at 74:12. Off the ensuing restart, the Bears Filipe Gomes carried the ball and fired a shot into the back of the net for what proved to be the game-winner.

The Rams had their chances late in the game including with 2:40 left when junior Andy Segura (Haverhill, Mass.) had a clean look off a corner kick, but his bid sailed just over the cross bar.

The Rams held a slim 15-14 edge in shots for the game, while the Bears led five corners to four.  Junior Josh Arno (Natick, Mass.) made five saves for the Rams and surrendered a pair of goals.   Colin Jepson earned the win for the Bears making four stops.

The Rams are back in action on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Springfield College for a non-conference game at 4 p.m., while the Bears travel to Roger Williams on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
