Men’s Soccer Falls in Double-Overtime to WPI

Framingham, Mass.- The Framingham State men's soccer team fell in double-overtime to WPI by a score of 2-1 in non-conference action Wednesday evening in Framingham. With the win the Engineers improve to 3-0 while the Rams slip to 1-2.

Ken Stahovish (Springfield, Mass.) got the Rams on the board in the 62nd with Simon Appiah (Worcester, Mass.) assisting. The visitors answered just a few moments later when Anthony Vigliotta (Beverly, Mass.) evened it up after Liam Setterlund (Holden, Mass.) deflected a cross his way.

The Rams had an opportunity to win in the first overtime period when Stahovish sent a header just over the crossbar.

The game reached its conclusion when Matt Farrell (Groveland, Mass.) redirected Vigliotta's corner kick past the Rams keeper. This is the third time in four meetings that Farrell has scored the game-winning goal against the Rams.

Junior Jordan Finzel (Northport, NY) made 2 saves in the win for the Engineers. Freshman Corey Davidge (Blackstone, Mass.) made 7 stops in the setback for the Rams.

The Engineers outshot the Rams 14-to-12in the contest and were award ten corner kicks to the Rams one. 

The Rams return to action on Saturday, September 10th when they host WPI in a non-conference match up at noon. WPI returns to the pitch on the same day when they host Mass. Maritime Academy.
