Men’s Soccer Suffers 4-2 Setback vs. Springfield

Framingham, Mass.- The Framingham State University Rams men's soccer team fell in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon to Springfield College by a score of 4-2. With the loss the Rams slip to 4-7 while the Pride move to 9-2.

The Rams opened up scoring in the 23rd minute when sophomore Ben Britton (Peabody, Mass.) sent a long strike towards the frame that was redirected by a Pride defender into the net.

The Pride answered back just under ten minutes later when Harrison Davis (Merrick, NY) headed in a corner kick from Ryan Elster (Sutton, Mass.). The Pride extended their lead just before the end of the 1st stanza when Tim Wood (Derry, NH) sent a low strike past the Rams keeper after a long lead pass from Taylor Gilroy (Holliston, Mass.).

The Pride scored twice in the second half, first in the 50th minute Luke Alvaro (Chicopee, Mass.) scored with an assist being credited to Christian Schneider (Shelton, CT). In the 74th minute Douglas Enga (Syosset, NY) headed in another corner from the boot of Elster.

The Rams Cory Cardeiro (Fall River, Mass.) converted a penalty kick in the 79th minute after a Rams player was taken down in the box to reach the final margin.

The Pride outshot the Rams 26-to-9 and attempted 7 corner kicks to the Rams 5.

Josh Arno (Natick, Mass.) made 12 saves in the first 78 minutes before giving way to freshman Maxwell Amoah (Worcester, Mass.).

The Rams return to action on Saturday, September 10th when they host Westfield State in MASCAC action slated for 2:00 p.m. The Pride will host WPI in NEWMAC action on the same day at noon.
