Men’s Soccer Silenced in 1-0 Loss at Connecticut College
NEW LONDON, Conn.--Zach Punt (West Hartford, Conn.) buried a header with four seconds left in the opening half to lead the Connecticut College men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory against Framingham State University on the Artificial Turf at Silfen Field Wednesday.
The Camels improved their record to 5-3 with their second consecutive win, while the visiting Rams suffered their third consecutive setback, slipping to 3-5-1 on the season.
The Camels had a prime scoring opportunity in the 24th minute of play. Charlie Overton (Far Hills, N.J.) unloaded with a high rising blast but Framingham goaltender Jacob Nichols (Sturbridge, Mass.) was able to tip the ball out of play to keep the game scoreless.
But Overton would not be denied and in the closing moments of the first stanza he delivered a nice feed to Dillon Kerr (West Roxbury, Mass.) at the right side of the box. Kerr sent a cross across the goal mouth to Punt who planted the header to put the hosts on top 1-0.
The Camels put together some nice combinations in the second half to try to add some insurance to their one-goal advantage. With 29:40 to play, Weller Hlinomaz (New York, N.Y.) snapped off a low shot that had eyes for the back of the net but Nichols was able to make a diving stab for the Rams.
Framingham had a chance to pull even in the 63rd minute. Bryan DaSilva (Milford, Mass.) induced a Camel turnover and fired a long 30 yard blast toward the goal but it sailed wide right and out of play.
The Camels countered with a pressure of their own in the 65th minute. Kerr belted a high rising shot from the center of the box but Nichols was able to climb the ladder to make the punch save.
Framingham had one more quality chance in the 67th minute. Jeffrey Braverman (Framingham, Mass.) delivered an entry pass to Cory Cardeiro (Fall River, Mass.). Cordeiro redirected it with a header but his shot hooked wide of the left post.

The Camels were able to hold on for the 1-0 win.  Austin DaCunha (Brookfield, Conn.) made two saves en route to his third shutout of the season for the hosts. Nichols finished with three stops for the Rams.

The shots were even at 10 aside. Connecticut College held a slim 4-to-3 edge on corners.

The Rams return to action Saturday, October 4th when they host Salem St. in MASCAC matchup scheduled for noon.
