Men’s Soccer Falls in Overtime to Rhode Island College

Framingham, Mass. – Rhode Island College senior Emmanuel Asiedu (Lincoln, RI) chipped a shot passed the Rams goaltender and into the net in the 105th minute to lead the Anchorman to victory over Framingham State University Tuesday afternoon at the Maple St. Field. With the victory the Anchorman improve to 5-3-1 and the Rams fall to 3-3-1 on the season.

Rhode Island college took a quick lead scoring the game's first goal just 1:55 into the 1st half. Junior Kevin Arboleda (Pawtucket, RI/ Tolman) headed a low cross into the net from Asiedu to put the Anchormen on the board.

The Rams answered in the 30th minute when a junior Cory Cardeiro (Fall River, MA/ BMC Durfee) converted on a penalty kick after a Rams' player was taken down in the box.

The Ram's best chance to take the lead was with just over twenty-seven minutes remaining in regulation a Rhode Island foul set up a direct kick. A Rams player hit a long strike towards the top of the net that was punched away by freshman goalkeeper Adam Ghazal (Pawtucket, RI/ Tolman). Ghazal made 5 saves in 105:33 minutes in goal. Rams keeper sophomore Jacob Nichols (Sturbridge, MA/ Tantadqua made 4 saves and allowed the two Rhode Island goals.

The Anchormen held a 19-12 advantage in shots and the Rams were called for 25 fouls to the Rhode Island 16.

The Rams return to action with a MASCAC matchup at Worcester State on Saturday, September 23rd at noon.
