Men’s Soccer's Offense Stalls in Loss at UMass-Dartmouth

Dartmouth, Mass. – The Framingham State University men's soccer team fell to host UMass- Dartmouth at Cressy Field on Saturday afternoon 4-0. With the loss the Rams fall to 2-2 and with the win the Corsairs improve to 2-2.

UMass Dartmouth senior JB Macaroco (New Bedford, Mass.) and sophomore Matt Vidal(New Bedford, Mass.) each registered four points to pace the UMass Dartmouth attack. Vidal set up the second and third Corsair goals before netting an unassisted marker to cap the scoring. Senior Alex Machado (New Bedford, Mass.) tallied three points on a goal and an assist.

UMass Dartmouth cracked the scoring column in the 26th minute, when Machado sent a pass to the right flank. Macaroco laced a frozen rope towards the far, left post that deflected into the net to give the hosts a lead they would not relinquish.

The Corsairs raised their offensive pressure in the second stanza, compiling 12 of their 20 shots on the afternoon. In the 58th minute, Vidal delivered a corner kick from the right flag that was headed into the back of the net by Machado. Less than 10 minutes later, the hosts utilized another set piece to extend their advantage. Once again, Vidal was the catalyst, serving a free kick into the 18-yard box that Macaroco elevated over a Ram defender and headed off the cross bar and behind the goal line.

UMass Dartmouth sealed the victory with an insurance marker in the 84th minute, when Vidal broke in behind the Framingham backfield and deposited his third marker of the season inside the left post.
