Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University men's soccer team exploded for four second half goals to break open a scoreless game and defeat Suffolk University 4-0 in the non-conference season opener for both schools at Maple Street Field.

Framingham State (1-0) had a chance to strike first midway through the opening half when Maycon Malta (Milford, Mass.) had a breakaway, but the Suffolk goalkeeper James Potter (North Kingstown, RI) came off his line and made a sliding play before Malta could get a shot off.

Suffolk followed with a chance of their own in the 30th minute as David Cook (San Diego, Calif.) sent a blast on goal from 40 yards out, but his attempt hit the cross bar.

Suffolk started the second half with an offensive flurry, but could not find the back of the net.  Alberto Bittan (Caracas, Venezuela) hit the cross bar and 8 followed with a one touch right in from that Jake Nichols came up with the save.

After a Framingham State player received a red card and was ejected from the game in the 64th minute, the Rams took control with four goals.  Senior Bryan DaSilva (Milford, Mass.) struck first in the 73rd minute off an assist from freshman Cian Merritt (Westborough, Mass.).

Two minutes later, senior Nick Cotter (Sandwich, Mass.) laced a shot inside the near post for the two goal advantage.  DaSilva tacked on his second of the game with just over 11 minutes remaining and senior Marc Amedee (Brockton, Mass.) closed the scoring with an unassisted tally in the 87th minute.

Framingham State outshot Suffolk 24-9 with sophomore Jacob Nichols (Sturbridge, Mass.) making three stops en route to the shutout victory.  Potter finished the game with 11 saves for Suffolk.

The black and gold are back in action on Saturday for a non-conference game at home against WPI at 1 p.m., while Suffolk is back on the road Saturday when they travel to Lesley at 1 p.m.
