Men's Soccer Secures Second Seed in MASCAC Tournament with 3-1 Win Over Westfield State

Westfield, Mass. – Junior midfielder Maycon Malta (Milford, Mass.) had two goals and an assist to lead Framingham State University to a 3-1 victory over Westfield State University in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) men's soccer action on Saturday evening.

Framingham is 7-11-1 overall and the No. 2 seed for the MASCAC postseason tournament after compiling a 4-2-1 regular season conference record. Westfield finishes its season 5-12 and 2-5.

The Owls jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute on an unassisted goal by Kristen Driscoll (Lexington, Mass.), one of 10 Westfield seniors playing for the final time at Alumni Field.

Malta evened the score in the 31st minute and assisted on the game-winning goal by junior Bryan DaSilva (Milford, Mass.) in the 39th minute. Malta tacked on an insurance tally in the 50th minute

Framingham outshot Westfield, 16-6, while the Owls led in corner kicks, 7-2.

The Rams will host a semifinal game of the 2013 MASCAC Men's Soccer Championship next Friday.
