Men’s Soccer Falls to Roger Williams 3-1

Framingham, Mass. – Junior forward Trevor Hoxie (Scarborough, ME) tallied a first half hat trick to lead the Roger Williams University men's soccer team to a 3-1 win this afternoon over the Framingham State University Rams in non-conference action at Maple Street Field.

With the win, the Hawks improve to 4-1 on the year, while the Rams are still in search of their first victory at 0-3-1.

The Hawks took the early just under seven minutes into the game.  Sophomore Guthrie Carpenter (Fairfield, Conn.) sent a thru ball to Hoxie who broke free from the Ram defense pulling the goalkeeper off the line.  Hoxie laid a shot into the far corner for the 1-0 advantage.

The Rams answered in the 16th minute with the game-tying goal.  Junior Romulo Carvalho (Milford, Mass.) had the ball in the box and was taken down by a Hawk defender resulting in a penalty kick for the Rams.  Sophomore Bryan DaDilva (Milford, Mass.) took the kick for the Rams and converted his second PK of the season.

Hoxie would put the Hawks back in the lead for good as he completed the hat trick with goals in the 27th and 38th minutes.  On his second goal, Hoxie carried the ball on the left sideline and sent a perfectly placed shot into the far corner.  On his third tally of the game, Hoxie took possession of the ball from a Ram defender and broke away placing a shot in the corner for the 3-1 lead.

Roger Williams held an 18-12 advantage in shots for the game and a 4-2 edge in corners.  Sophomore Tom Mangels (Garden City, NY) picked up the victory in net for the Hawks making four saves, while senior Sam Yoder (Southbridge, Mass.) made 10 stops for the Rams.

The Rams return to action on Saturday afternoon when they begin MASCAC action hosting Worcester State at 2 p.m., while the Hawks begin CCC action on the road Saturday at Endicott at 3 p.m.
