Men’s Soccer Falls 1-0 to WPI

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University men's soccer team was edged this morning 1-0 by WPI in non-conference action at Maple Street Field.

With the win, the Engineers remain undefeated on the season at 4-0, while the Rams slip to 0-2-1 on the young season.

WPI broke a scoreless deadlock midway through the first period.  Sophomore midfielder Sam Russell (Glastonbury, Conn.) hit junior Chris Ciampa (Westford, Mass.) with a pass in the box.  Ciampa made a move and placed a shot in the far corner for his third tally of the season at 23:51.

The Rams had a chance to score the equalizer late in the first after a card against WPI gave the Rams a direct kick from 30 yards out.  Sophomore midfielder Cory Cardeiro (Westport, Mass.) took the shot and his bid sailed just high over the cross bar.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the second half as both teams finished the game with 11 shots.  Senior Sam Yoder (Southbridge, Mass.) picked up the loss for the Rams making four saves, while junior Jeff Wong (Millington, NJ) picked up the shutout win for WPI making three stops.

The Rams return to action on Wednesday afternoon with a non-conference match against Roger Williams slated to begin in Framingham at 4 p.m., while the Engineers host Brandeis on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.
