Endicott Squeaks by Men’s Soccer 1-0

Framingham, Mass. – Sophomore Bobby Durben (Stow, Mass.) tallied the game's only goal in the second half to lift the visiting Endicott College Gulls to a 1-0 win today over the Framingham State Rams in non-conference men's soccer action at Maple Street Field.

With the win, the Gulls improve to 9-6-3 on the year, while the Rams are now 6-7-3.

After a scoreless first half that saw the Gulls outshoot the Rams 9-5, Endicott was able to break into the scoring column in the 57th minute.  The Rams defense misplayed a ball at the top of the box and Durben collected the loose ball, took a dribble and found the back of the net for the go ahead goal at 56:45.

Trailing 1-0, the Rams offense came alive with several chances to score down the stretch. In the 63rd minute junior Will Menter (Haverhill, Mass.) sent a long cross into the box that freshman Cory Cardeiro (Westport, Mass.) headed to sophomore Romulo Carvalho (Milford, Mass.), but Carvalho's header sailed high.

The Rams had one last opportunity to tie the score with 3:25 remaining when Menter took a direct kick from 30 yards out.  Menter blasted a shot at the goal that went over the Gull goalkeeper's hands but hit the crossbar.  The rebound deflected out to senior Steve Lesiczka (Haverhill, Mass.) who sent a shot on net that sailed high ending the Rams threat.

The Rams outshot the Gulls 17-14 in the game and held a 6-0 edge in corner kicks.  Freshman Aaron Kanter (Medfield, Mass.) made seven saves for the Gulls and picked up the shutout victory, while junior Sam Yoder (Southbridge, Mass.) made nine saves and was tagged with the loss.

The Rams close out the regular season on Saturday with their final MASCAC match as they travel to Westfield State at 11 a.m., while the Gulls begin TCCC Tournament action on Saturday.
