Men’s Soccer Picks Up 4-0 Shutout Win Over Fitchburg State

Framingham, Mass.  — The Framingham State University men's soccer team improved to 4-2 in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) with a 4-0 shutout win this morning over the Fitchburg State Falcons at Maple Street Field.  With the win, the Rams improve to 10-6 overall, while the loss drops the Falcons to 3-11 overall and 1-5 in the MASCAC.                  

The Rams took the lead for good in the 8th minute of play as junior Richie Green (Haverhill, Mass.) sent a cross to senior Sean Austin (Winchester, Mass.) who knocked it home for what proved to be the game winner and his second goal of the season.

Framingham State extended their lead to 2-0 three minutes later as junior Peter Maranto (Haverhill, Mass.) scored off an assist from senior forward Jason Silva.  The Rams extended their lead to 3-0 in the 24th minute as Silva converted a penalty kick for his team leading 15th goal of the season.

The Rams outshot the Falcons 21-5 in the game including 10-3 in the second half.  Greg Halle (Beverly, Mass.) picked up his fifth shutout win of the season making four saves, while Alex Ivanov (Carlisle, Mass.) made five saves for the Falcons.

Sophomore Jepherson Cardoso (Framingham, Mass.) added the Rams fourth goal in the 59th minute off an assist from senior Scotty Faria (Fall River, Mass.) to reach the final margin.

The Rams return to action Sunday as they host Amherst College at 2 p.m., while the Falcons travel to Daniel Webster on Tuesday at 3:30.
