Men's Soccer Downs UMass-Boston, 2-1

Framingham, Mass. — Aided by a score from Jason Silva (Northbridge, Mass.) and an inadvertent own goal, the Framingham State men's soccer team posted a 2-1 victory over the University of Massachusetts Boston in non-conference action today at Maple Street Field. The win improves the Rams to 9-4, while the Beacons drop to 4-9.

Framingham State broke a scoreless tie in the 36th minute, as Andrew Berte (Malden, Mass.) sent a through ball from the left side that found Silva at the right post.  Silva's eighth goal of the season, gave the Rams a 1-0 lead.

Six minutes later, a hard pass from Framingham State's Christopher Wilkins (Heath, Mass.), intended for Silva, struck a UMass Boston defender and found its way into the back of the net.  The own goal increased the advantage to 2-0, where it would remain at the break.

The Beacons would get on the board in the 67th minute as Stefanos Galouzis (Watertown, Mass.) collected his own rebound and sent it past the Rams keeper to cut the lead to 2-1.  Framingham State then held off a late UMass Boston charge to seal the victory.

The Rams outshot the Beacons 15-9 in the game, while UMass Boston held the edge in corners, 6-5.

In net, Framingham State's Greg Halle (Beverly, Mass.) recorded six saves, while his UMass Boston counterpart, Brycen Dowd (Mansfield, Mass.), made five stops.

Framingham State returns to action on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. playing at MASCAC-rival Bridgewater State.  UMass Boston also returns to conference play on Saturday, traveling to Keene State for a 1:00 p.m. Little East clash.
