Rhode Island College Defeats Men’s Soccer 3-1

Framingham, Mass.  — Rhode Island College used three second half goals to defeat the Framingham State University men's soccer team 3-1 today in non-conference action at Maple Street Field.  With the win, the Anchormen improve to 7-2 on season, while the Rams are also 7-2.

After a scoreless first half, the Anchormen struck for two goals less than ten minutes into the second.  Junior Mike Patriarca (Warren, RI) sent a cross to classmate Bruno Costa (Pawtucket, RI) and Costa beat the Rams keeper with a well placed shot for the game's first goal at 51:03.  Three minutes later, Hector Espildora Fortuno (Malaga, Spain) launched a corner kick into the box that Jose Ruiz (Providence, RI) headed home to give Rhode Island College a 2-0 lead at the 54:28 mark.

Less than two minutes later, Framingham State senior forward Jason Silva (Northbridge, Mass.) struck for the Rams only goal in the game as he found the back of the net with a direct kick from 20 yards out.

The Rams outshot the Anchormen 20-11 in the game including 10-7 in the second half, but RIC goalkeeper Nic Clark (East Bridgewater, Mass.) made eight saves en route to the win.  FSU goalkeeper Greg Halle (Beverly, Mass.) made five stops for the Rams in a losing effort.

Espildora scored an insurance goal for the Anchormen in the 85th minute off an assist from Costa to reach the final margin of 3-1.

The Rams return to action on Saturday as they travel to MASCAC rival Salem State at 3 p.m., while the Anchormen return to Little East Conference action at Keene State on Saturday at 6 p.m.
