Faria’s Hat Trick Leads Men’s Soccer to 4-1 Win Over Roger Williams

Framingham, Mass. — Senior midfielder Scotty Faria (Fall River, Mass.) notched his second hat trick of the season to lead the Framingham State University men's soccer team to a 4-1 non-conference win over Roger Williams University today at Maple Street Field.  The Rams, who are ranked 9th in New England in this week's NSCAA/HendrickCars.com Regional Rankings, improve to 5-0 on the season, while the loss drops the Hawks to 1-5.

The Rams took a 1-0 lead just five minutes into the game as senior forward Jason Silva (Northbridge, Mass.) took a throw in from sophomore Will Menter (Haverhill, Mass.) and placed a shot in the top corner of the net for his sixth goal of the season.

Roger Williams would battle back and knot the game at 1-1 in the 18th minute as Daniel Caruso (Tewksbury, Mass.) sent the ball ahead to Bradley MacDonald (Topsfield, Mass.), who connected for the game tying goal.

The Rams outshot the Hawks 25-9 in the game including a 16-4 advantage in the first half.  Framingham State had several chances to break the tie before the half, but they were unable to find that back of the net and the game headed into the break tied at one.

Faria put the Rams ahead for good at the 50 minute mark as he corralled a rebound in the box and fired a shot into the back of the net for what proved to be the game winner.

Just over eight minutes later, sophomore Cory Ferris (Somerset, Mass.) would find Faria in front of the net and Faria would connect for his second of the game giving the Rams a 3-1 lead.  Faria would complete the hat trick in the 88th minute as he scored on a direct kick from 20 yards out to reach the final score of 4-1.

Framingham State goalkeeper Greg Halle (Beverly, Mass.) picked up his fifth win of the season making three saves, while Peter Plate (Commack, NY) made nine saves in a losing effort.

The Rams return to action on Saturday as they begin MASCAC play at Massachusetts Maritime Academy at noon, while Roger Williams squares off with Gordon on Saturday at 2:30 pm in a TCCC matchup.
