Wenham, Mass. - Cory Ferris (Somerset, Mass.) struck in the 15th
minute for what proved to be the game's only goal as the
visiting Framingham State University men's soccer team
defeated Gordon College 1-0 at the Brigham Athletic Complex.
The Rams were the aggressors early, putting together a number of
good scoring before Ferris broke through. Senior midfielder
Scott Faria (Fall River, Mass.) assisted on Ferris'
tally.
However, the Scots' defense settled and the remainder of
the half was played to a draw. Noah McGarr nearly broke through for
the Scots late in the first half, but his shot off the left wing
sailed just wide.
Gordon goalkeeper Alex Sosler (two saves) was tested twice in the
second half and came up with a pair of diving stops. The Scots
attack nearly scored in the final ten minutes of the match as Matt
Horth cracked two shots on goal, but both were turned aside by
Rams' keeper Greg Halle (Beverly, Mass.), who made seven stops in
the game.
The two teams were even in shots at 13 apiece with Framingham
State holding a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
Gordon (0-2) will look to break into the win column on Monday when
they host Salem State at 4 p.m., while the Rams improve to 2-0 on
the young season and travel to Curry College on Wednesday night at
7 p.m.
