Box Score

Westfield, Mass. - Sophomore forward Jon Caldwell (South Windsor, Conn.) scored the only goal to pace Westfield State to a 1-0 men's soccer victory over Framingham State on Saturday evening, Sept. 19.

It was the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) opener and the first victory of the season for the 1-4-1 Owls. Framingham drops to 1-5 on the season and 0-1 in the MASCAC.  The loss snaps a ten game conference unbeaten streak for the Rams that began during the 2007 season.

Caldwell scored in the 36th minute near the goal after taking a pass from sophomore forward Josh Severns (Suffield, Conn.).

Both teams had 12 shots in the game. Framingham had two excellent scoring chances in the 97th minute but was turned away by a defensive save from Billy Reagan (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) and a goalie save that deflected off the crossbar by Lucas Dexter (Acushnet, Mass.).

Dexter finished with three saves while Framingham State goalkeeper Greg Halle (Beverly, Mass.) made six saves in his first game back after an injury.

The Rams return to action on Wednesday as they travel to Babson for a 4 p.m. game.
