Jones Receives 2008 Heffernan Award

Framingham, MA - The Framingham State College Athletic Department is pleased to announce the Mike Jones of Norwood was awarded the 2008 Peter J. Heffernan Jr. Award as the Framingham State most valuable player of the game on October 4th as the Rams defeated Worcester State 1-0 during Framingham's Homecoming and Family Weekend.  Jones, a senior midfielder for the Rams, scored the game winning goal in the 33rd minute of play.  Jones is currently third on the team in scoring with four goals and eight assists for 16 points as the Rams are still unbeaten in Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) play at 5-0-1 heading into the final weekend of the regular season.

The Peter J. Heffernan Jr. Award is given annually to the most valuable Framingham State player in a selected game.  Peter Heffernan Jr. was a 1995 graduate of Framingham State College and a former member of the men's soccer team who tragically passed away in the summer of 2005.  Peter's family, friends, and former teammates return annually to Maple Street Field to present the award in his memory.
