Babson Hands Men's Soccer First Loss of the Season

Framingham, MA - The Framingham State College men's soccer team was defeated for the first time this season by Babson College by a score of 5-2 today at Framingham's Maple Street Field.  With the win the Beavers improve to 6-2-1 on the season, while the Rams are now 5-1-1.

Framingham State scored first in the 14th minute as senior forward Johnny Goncalves (Framingham, MA) fired a shot into the back of the net from just inside the box.  Sophomore Brunno Goncalves (Framingham, MA) assisted on the tally that gave the Rams a 1-0 lead.

Babson's offense came alive as they scored three unanswered goals to close the first half and take the lead for good.  In the 28th minute junior midfielder Dan Fogarty (Brookline, MA), who picked up 3 assists on the day, launched a direct kick into the box that senior forward Tim Winn (Sutton, MA) headed in for his first goal of the day.  Fogarty would connect with teammate Billy Nickerson (Middleton, MA) for Babson's next two goals in the 30th and 39th minutes.

Babson extended their lead to 4-1 in the 56th minute as Fogarty took a pass from Winn and placed a shot past the Rams net minder.  Senior Karol Tegha (Lynn, MA) would head in a corner kick from Scott Faria (Fall River, MA) in the 73rd minute to pull the Rams back within three.  That was as close as they would get as Winn added an unassisted goal in the final minute of play to put Babson up 5-2.  First year Peter Crowley (Lexington, MA) went the distance in net for the Beavers and made six saves.

Both teams return to action on Saturday as the Rams travel to Massachusetts Maritime Academy at noon, while the Beavers host Coast Guard at 1:00.
