Men's Soccer Advances to Semifinals of ECAC Division III Men's Soccer Championship

Framingham, MA - The second seed Framingham State College men's soccer team defeated the seventh seed Colby-Sawyer Chargers 2-1 at Maple Street Field in the opening round of the Eastern College Athletic  Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Men's Soccer Championship Tournament.  The Rams (14-4-1) advance to the semifinals on Saturday to face the winner of the Southern Maine/Wentworth quarterfinal which is being played at 6 p.m. tonight.

The Rams took a 1-0 lead in the 7th minute of play as senior Rob Harvey (Lakeville, MA) crossed the ball in front of the net and freshman standout Jason Silva (Milford, MA) knocked home his thirteenth goal of the season.  Colby-Swayer (9-9-2) picked up their offensive pressure after falling behind and in the 28th minute of play senior midfielder Tyler Davis (Laconia, NH) passed the ball ahead to junior forward Doug Currie (Harvard, MA) who placed a low shot on net past the Rams goalkeeper that was deflected in by a Rams defender for an own goal that knotted the game at 1-1.

The game was physical and saw a combined 37 fouls called on the two teams and would remain tied until the 43rd minute of play when freshman midfielder Scott Faria (Fall River, MA) launched a cross in front of the net and sophomore Sean Austin (Winchester, MA) headed it home for what proved to be the game winner and his second goal of the season.

Framingham State goalie Eddie Palomba (Saugus, MA) made five stops in the win, while Charger netminder Chris Feltes (Manchester, NH) made six stops in the loss.
