Men's Soccer Remains Perfect in Conference Play

Framingham, MA- The Framingham State College men's soccer team remains unbeaten in Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action as they picked up a 2-0 win over Massachusetts Maritime Academy at home today on Maple Street Field.  With the win, the Rams improve to 7-2-1 overall on the season and a perfect 3-0 in conference play, while the Buccaneers fall to 1-9 overall and 0-3 in conference.

After a scoreless first half, the Rams John Strazzullo (Webster, MA) hit Jim Colombo (Littleton, MA) with a perfect cross in front of the net and Colombo was able to knock it home for his second goal of the year and what turned out to be the game winner.  The Rams would add an insurance goal in the 79th minute as Strazzullo carried the ball thru the Buccaneer defense and slipped a shot into the bottom corner for his first goal of the year.

Mass. Maritime junior goal keeper Tim Meighan (E. Bridgewater, MA) made nine saves on the day, while Framingham net minder Eddie Palomba (Saugus, MA) made four and picked up the win.

At the conclusion of the game, the Rams John Strazzullo was awarded the 2007 Peter J. Heffernan Jr. Award. The award is given annually in memory of Peter J. Heffernan Jr., who was a 1995 graduate of Framingham State College and a member of the FSC men's soccer team.  Peter tragically passed away in the summer of 2005 and on hand for the award presentation were his family and former teammates.

The Rams return to action on Monday as they travel to Worcester State for a 6 p.m. game, while the Buccaneers travel to Westfield State on Monday for a noon game.
