Worcester, Mass.- The Framingham State Ice Hockey team picked up their first conference win with a 5-2 win over Worcester State on a snowy Saturday evening at the Worcester Ice Center.
THE BASICS:
- Score: Framingham State 5, Worcester State 2
- Records: Framingham State (2-12-1, 1-8-0 MASCAC), Worcester State (5-8-1, 3-6 MASCAC)
- Location: Worcester Ice Center - Worcester, Mass.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Rams struck first early in the frame when Jack Sheehan scored a shorthanded goal with help from Soren Colstrup and Matthew Paiotti. A few minutes later, again shorthanded, the Rams Brian Kozek found the back of the cage with Sheehan and Colstrup assisting.
- The Lancers answered while on that same powerplay whey Matthew Manning finished a pass from Max Roth to make it a 2-1 game.
- The Lancers tied the score early in the 2nd when Jake Karelas sent once past the Rams keeper, but the Rams answered. Less than a minute later Ethan Cervonayco sent in the eventual game-winner with an assist from Jack Pierson.
- The Rams tallied again midway through the third with a Chris Rupp score and Paiotti sent in the empty-netter in the closing seconds to reach the final margin.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Rams senior Greg Harney warned his first win of the year making 46 saves in net for FSU. Josh Reinstein and Blake Bjella combined to make 13 stops for the Lancers.
- The Lancers outshot the Rams by a 48-to-18 margin but the Rams made the most of their chances.
- The visitors were 0-for-2 on the man advantage but scored two shorthanded goals. The Lancers were 1-for-2 on the powerplay.
