Men’s Ice Hockey Blanked at Worcester

Worcester, Mass.. – Worcester State University's Nick Patullo (Doylestown, Pa.) and Erik Pritchard(Cave Creek, Ariz.) each collected a goal and an assist in the Lancers' 6-0 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) shutout over the visiting Rams of Framingham State Saturday afternoon.

With the win the Lancers improve to 12-7-1 and 7-6-1 in the MASCAC. The Rams are now 3-15-2 and 2-11-0 in the conference.

The Lancers exploded to a 4-0 lead, outshooting the visitors 20-6 in the first period. Worcester State's Ryan James (Katy, Texas) started the scoring in the 4thminute when he found the puck off a goalie deflection and jammed it in past Framingham State's Adam Calabrese (Philadelphia, Pa.) on a power play for the 1-0 gain. Jake Karelas (Melrose, Mass.) scored the second goal on assists from Cody Weaver (Warwick, R.I.) and Mike Moran (Milford, Mass.). He took the shot from the left faceoff circle and sent the puck to the upper right corner of the net. Ryan Flynn (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) scored the third goal on a helper from Andrew Etheridge (Burrillville, R.I.). Kyle Hayter (Helena, Mont.) scored the Lancers' fourth and final goal of the frame on assists from Moran and Sean Castagna (Wilmington, Del.).

Worcester State added to its lead early in the second when Patullo took a shot from the middle of the ice and directed the puck into the lower left corner of the net for the 5-0 lead.

After assisting Patullo's goal in the second period, Pritchard scored one himself in the third when he shot the puck through the 5-hole succeeding passes from Mike Palmer (Grafton, Mass.) and Patullo for the 6-0 score.

Patullo and Pritchard each tallied a goal and an assist in the win. Etheridge, Palmer, and Moran logged two assists each. Worcester State outshot the Rams, 46-18. 

Worcester State's goaltender, Cory Lignelli (Glastonbury, Conn.) turned away 18 shots for the shutout. Framingham State's Calabrese suffered the loss in a 20-minute, 16-save performance. Nolan Greene (Quincy, Mass.) relieved and made 24 stops in 40 minutes played.

Worcester State converted 1-of-5 power plays. The Rams went 0-for-3.

Worcester State returns to the Worcester Ice Center on Tuesday (Feb. 6) to matchup against non-conference opponent, Assumption, in a 7 p.m. tilt. Framingham State resumes play on Thursday (Feb. 8) as they host Westfield State in a 7:30 p.m. MASCAC contest.
