Men’s Ice Hockey Grabs MASCAC Win vs. Westfield State

Framingham, Mass. – Framingham State University freshman Ryan Paul (Morgan, VT) scored off a pass from Brandon Hamner (Waltham, Mass.) halfway through the 3rd period to break a 1-1 tie and send the Rams past Westfield State by a score of 2-1 in MASCAC action Saturday evening at Loring Arena.

With the win the Rams improve to 2-1-2 on the season and 1-1 in MASCAC play. The Owls are now 1-3 overall and 0-2 in league play.

The Owls opened up the scoring a little over halfway through the first when FX Girard (St Lazare, Quebec) scored a power play goal with assists from Robert Neuwirth (Zlin, Czech Republic) and Nik Passero (Fort Erie, Mass.).

The Rams knotted the game at 1 in the second period on a power play of their own in the 7th minute of the frame. Jack Sheehan (Norwood, Mass.) found the back of the net with help from Jake McKinnon (Framingham, Mass.) and Brody McDougal (Rochester, NH).

Paul's game winner was the only score of the third period.

Greg Harney (East Haven, Conn.) made 31 stops in the win for the Rams including a flurry of chances late in the 3rd period. Kameron Limburg (Howell, MI) turned away 26 shots in the setback for the Owls. 

The Owls held the advantage in total shots 32-to-28 after dominating the pace of play in the 1st period but the Rams rebounded in the later periods.

Neither side was overly effective on the power play as the Rams went 1-for-7 on the man advantage and the Owls converted once in six attempts.

The Rams return to the ice on Tuesday, November 14th when they travel to Assumption College. The Owls travel to UMass Dartmouth on Thursday, November 16th.
