Worcester, Mass. – Worcester State University's senior forward Alex DeWitz (Oronoco, Minn.) scored two goals Sunday afternoon as the Lancers' defeated Framingham State University 4-1 in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) matchup inside the Hart Recreation Center.

With the win, the Lancers advance to 7-10-3 and 5-7-2 in the conference. Framingham State dips to 2-18 and 1-13 in the MASCAC.

Worcester State started strong as they outshot the Rams 18-3 in the first period. Despite the 18 shots on goal in the frame, the Lancers were only able to slide one past Framingham's goaltender, Greg Harney (E. Haven, Conn.). In the fourth minute of the period DeWitz found a loose puck following touches from Khalil East (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Patrick Germain (Auburn, Mass.) and poked it through the five hole for the 1-0 gain.

The Lancers added to their lead in the second period as they scored two goals to triple their lead. Defenseman Jim LeNoir (Exton, Pa.) picked up his fourth goal of the season on a shot from the right side just in front of the blue line for the second goal. DeWitz then picked up another goal in the 16th minute on a power play opportunity.  DeWitz's goal was assisted by Mitchell Purdie (Cavan, Ont.) and Alex Pommerville (Macedon, N.Y.).

Worcester State upped their lead to four just five minutes into the third period when Andrew Etheridge (Burrillville, R.I.) found the top left corner of the net on a wrist shot. Framingham State spoiled the shutout with just less than four minutes to go in the game when Jack Sheehan (Norwood, Mass.) poked the puck past Worcester's netminder Cory Lignelli (Glastonbury, Conn.) on a power play.

Lignelli earned the win as he stopped 19-of-20 shots on goal. Framingham State's Harney suffered the loss, tallying 38 saves in the 60-minute performance.

The Lancers outshot the Rams by a total of 42-20 and also held a 33-24 faceoff advantage.

Each team went 1-of-3 on power play opportunities.

Next up, the Lancers travel to Fitchburg State on Thursday (Feb. 9) for a 7 p.m. puck drop. Framingham State resumes play on Tuesday (Feb. 7) for non-conference action at Southern New Hampshire before returning to MASCAC play on Saturday (Feb. 11) when they host Plymouth State in a 7:50 p.m. matchup.
