Salem State Skates by Men’s Ice Hockey; 6-3

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University men's ice hockey team fell to Salem State by a score of 6-3 in MASCAC action Thursday evening in Framingham. With the win the Vikings improve to 8-7-3 and 7-2-2 in the league. The Rams are now 2-15 and 1-10 in conference play.

The Vikings got on the board just under five minutes to into the first period when Derek Makimaa (Swartz Creek, MI) scored with an assist coming from Dan Holland (Woburn, Mass.).

The visitors added to their lead in the second period when they scored two quick goals about five minutes in.  First Callum Hofford (Woodbridge, ONT) scored with an assist coming from Casey Miller (Billerica, Mass.). 61 seconds later Parker Stevens (St. Louis, MO) found the back of the net with assists from Michael Chen (Rockville, MD) and Derek Makimaa (Swartz Creek, MI).

The Rams answered while on a 5-on-3 advantage Mark Essery (Rockfall, Conn.) sent one home with assists from Jack Sheehan (Norwood, Mass.) and Cam Coburn (Fresno, CA).

The Vikings answered with two more to close the period and head to the break up 5-1. In the 14th minute Daniel Campbell (Waterloo, ON) scored on the power play with assists from Ryan Wilkinson (Burlington, OT) and Stevens. With just two seconds remaining the Vikings tallied another score when a turnover in the neutral zone created a 2-on-0 for Brandon Platt (Pittsburgh, PA) who scored with helpers from Hofford and Holland.

The Vikings added to the advantage with less than five minutes into the third a turnover in the neutral zone gathered by Mackenzie Cook (Reading, Mass.) and sent over the Rams goalie's shoulder.

The Rams scored two power play goals in the final minutes to reach the final 6-3 margin. First Jake McKinnon (Framingham, Mass.) scored with an assist from Tyler Colacchio (Bellingham, Mass.). Then as the buzzer sounded Coburn got a tally with Keith Barnaby (Leominster, Mass.) and Vaughn Guetens (Cheshire, Conn.) assisting

Jason Pucciarelli (Newmarket, ON) made 32 saves in the win for the Vikings before giving way to Chris Olsson (Stockholm, Sweden) who made 2 stops. Greg Harney (East Haven, Conn.) made 38 saves in net for the Rams.

The Rams return to the ice on Saturday, January 28th when they host UMass. Dartmouth in MASCAC play. The Vikings will host Worcester State on the same day.
