Ice Hockey Closes Semester with Loss to Assumption

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State ice hockey team surrendered three goals in the second period as Assumption College broke open a tied game en route to a 10-2 victory in non-conference action at Loring Arena.

With the win, Assumption improves to 4-8-1 on the year, while the Rams are now 1-9.

The Greyhounds jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of goals in the opening eight minutes of the game.  Peter McDonagh connected first off assists from Cam Laughlin and Brendan Philippon just 2:57 into the game and junior Jake Moore tallied a goal off a feed from Sam Kelly at 7:21.

The Rams offense responded with a goal of their own at 11:28 cutting the Greyhounds lead in half sophomore Ryan McDonough (Dorchester, Mass.) found the back of the net off feeds from seniors Vaughn Guetens (Cheshire, Conn.) and Mark Essery (Rockfall, Conn.).

Framingham State tied the game at 2-2 just under four minutes into the second period on a goal from Keith Barnaby (Leominster, Mass.) off assists from Essery and Brendan Pacarella (Sloatsburg, NY).  The Greyhounds answered with the go ahead goal from Tommy Mahoney just 30 seconds later to retake the lead for good.  Assumption would tack on two more in the frame to take a 5-2 lead after two periods.

Assumption tacked on five goals in the final period to reach the final margin.

The Greyhounds held a slim 34-33 edge in shots for the game and connected on three of five power play opportunities.

The Rams are idle until January 7th when they host Fitchburg State at 2:40 p.m., while the Greyhounds travel to Western New England on Thursday at 7:10 p.m.
