NEC scored their first goal six-and-a-half minutes into the game and did not look back, using goals by Fornaris and Joe Osaka (Tokyo, Japan) in the 13th and 15th minutes to build a 3-0 lead entering the first intermission.

A power play breakaway goal by Andreas Zollner (Varnamo, Sweden) 6:08 into the second period gave the Pilgrims a 4-0 lead, and Mike Whitehair (Victor, N.Y.) scored just over a minute later for the 5-0 advantage.

Riding a 5-on-3 opportunity while NEC served a major penalty, The Rams managed to back-to-back goals by Stoya and Guetens at 13:19 and 16:23, breaking up NEC's shutout attempt.

NEC finished out the high-scoring second period with goals by Keenan Haase (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and Fornaris at 18:05 and 18:32, respectively, to lead 7-2 through two full periods.
