Big First Period Shoots Westfield Over Men’s Ice Hockey

Framingham, Mass.- The Framingham State men's hockey team dropped a MASCAC matchup to Westfield State by a score of 6-0 Saturday evening at Loring Arena. With the win the Owls move to 5-2 and 3-2 in league play. The Rams slip to 1-5 and 0-4 in the MASCAC.

The Owls got off to a quick start scoring three goals in the first seven minutes and twenty-one seconds. Daniel Backstrom struck first just after the five-minute mark when he scored a power play goal with Mason Wade and Carl Greco assisting.

Just over two minutes later FX Girard scored his first of the night with Lenny Caglianone and Jackson Leef on the assist. Leef then sent his own past the Rams goalie just 17 seconds later with Samuel Gagnon and Wyatt Trumbley getting the helpers. Girard scored again in the 13th minute of the first period to send the Owls back to the locker room up 5-0 after one period.

After a scoreless 2nd period Westfield added and insurance goal halfway though the third when Nik Passero tipped a long strike from Donovan Gardiner to the back of the net.

Kam Limburg made 23 saves in the shutout win for the Owls. Adam Calabrese did not register a save in just over seven minutes before giving way to Ray Feeley who turned away 43 Owl attempts.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday, November 22nd when they travel to New England College. The Owls will travel to Franklin Pierce on the same day.
