Men’s Ice Hockey Opens Season with 5-3 Win at Franklin Pierce

Winchendon, Mass.- The Framingham State men's ice hockey team opened up the 2016-17 season with a 5-3 victory at Franklin Pierce University on Tuesday evening. The Rams start the season at 1-0 as the Ravens even up at 1-1.

Sophomore Greg Stoya (Lake George, NY) and freshman Jack Sheehan (Norwood, Mass.) each scored a pair of goals for the Rams and senior Vaughn Guetens (Cheshire, Conn.) picked up 3 assists on the night for the Rams.

Taylor Fletcher, Nick Idelicato & Alex Schleper were the goals scorers for the Ravens.

Stoya opened up scoring just over 5 minutes into the game with Brian Raimo (Medford, Mass.) and Guetens assisting. Fletcher tied the game halfway through the period and the teams went to the intermission 1-1.

The Rams came out hot scoring three goals in the second period that would lead to the win. In the second minute of the frame Sheehan netted his first of the game with Zack D'Errico (Concord, NH) and Anthony DePetres (Rochester, NY) assisting. Sheehan added a shorthanded goal just over five minutes later and Stoya scored on the power play later in the frame with Guetens and Matt Bauchman (Methuen, Mass.) assisting.

The Ravens cut into the lead to open the third frame bit Bauchman answered with a power play goal with help from Hayden Lyle (North Kingstown, RI) and Guetens. Schleper scored in the 17th minute of the last period for FPU to reach the final margin.

Ray Feeley (Winthrop, Mass.) made twenty saves in net for the Rams while Tom McGukin turned away 25 shots in the setback for the Ravens.

The Rams were 2-for-9 on the power play while the hosts were 1-of-8 on the man advantage.

The Rams return to action on Saturday, November 5th when they travel to Fitchburg State for a MASCAC matchup.
