Plymouth State Skates by Men’s Ice Hockey
Plymouth, NH- Plymouth State seniors Andrew Wigg (Lantz, N.S.) and Josh Woody (Sunderland, Md.) tallied a goal and an assist each Saturday evening as the Panthers skated past Framingham State University, 5-1, in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) men's ice hockey action at Hanaway Rink.
PSU scored two goals in a two-minute span midway through the second period to turn a 1-1 game into a 3-1 margin, and then tacked on two goals in the third period to seal the win. The Panthers (17-4-1 overall) maintain pace with league-leading Salem State in the MASCAC standings and move to 12-2-1 in conference play. Framingham State drops to 4-17-1 overall and 3-11-1 in the MASCAC.
Junior Ryan Callahan (Londonderry, N.H.) put the Panthers on the board early on, potting his third goal of the season just 1:44 into the contest with an assist from junior Zach Fox (Sandown, N.H.). The stood as the only goal until sophomore Tyler Colacchio (Bellingham, Mass.) tied the game for the visitors with a power play goal just 36 seconds into the second period, set up by senior Richard Hill (Tampa, Fla.)
Plymouth State took the lead for good when Woody scored with PSU a man up, and junior Dan Dupell (Collegeville, Pa.) followed less than two minutes later to make it 3-1. It was the ninth of the season for both Woody and Dupell, tied for third-most on the team.
Wigg pushed the margin to 4-1 with his eighth of the season with five minutes remaining in the third period, and freshman defenseman Tim Perron(Northborough, Mass.) scored his first goal of the season with a minute to go to round out the scoring.
Plymouth State finished with a 28-14 advantage in shots on goal. Senior goaltender Gordon Ceasar (Oak Park, Calif.) made 13 saves to record the win for PSU, while Adam Calabrese (Philadelphia, Pa.) made 23 saves in goal for the Rams.
Both teams play MASCAC games again on Thursday evening as PSU visits Fitchburg State for a 7:35 p.m. contest, and Framingham State travels to Westfield State for a 7:35 p.m. face-off.
