Assumption’s Late Surge Downs Men’s Ice Hockey

Worcester, Mass.- The Framingham State men's ice hockey team dropped a non-conference match up 6-4 on the road to Assumption College Wednesday evening. The Greyhounds push their record to 3-6-2 while the Rams slip to 2-8.

Framingham State took the lead in the fifth minute when Richard Hill (Tampa, FL) sent a shot from the blue line that found its way past the Assumption goaltender.

Just 3:27 into the second period, senior Brandon Bete (Greenfield, Mass.) netted the equalizer for the Greyhounds. The Hounds scored again for a 2-1 advantage less than two minutes later when junior Nick Fenuccio (Keene, N.H.), assisted by junior Stephen Picard (Enfield, Conn.) posted his second goal of the season.

The Rams netted their second goal when Cameron Klahre (Ashburnham, Mass.) found the back of the net but the hosts responded just 45 seconds later to regain the lead.

Both teams scored back-to-back to open the third period. FSU's Jack Murphy (Watertown, Conn.) scored at 2:08 but again the hosts responded quickly when Picard sent one home at 2:49 to make it 4-3.

O'Connor scored his second of the game for Framingham State with just over five minutes to play to tie the match 4-4.

Matt Cowles (Farmington, Conn.) put the Hounds up for good, 5-4, with less than three minutes left on the clock, assisted by Picard, before Alex Erban (Attleboro, Mass.) scored the insurance goal at 18:52 for the 6-4 victory.

Alessio Muggli (Rueti, Switzerland) made 46 saves in the setback for the Rams. Overall the Hounds outshot Framingham State 52-49 despite starting out the first period with a 22-12 deficit in shots. With only one penalty in the entire contest, Framingham State was 0-for-0 in power-play opportunities while the Hounds finished 0-for-1.

The Rams head into the semester break with a 2-8 record and 1-5 mark in the MASCAC. They will return to the ice on January 6th when they travel to Western New England.
