Strong Third Period Sends Stonehill Past Ice Hockey

Foxboro, Mass. – The Framingham State University ice hockey team entered the third period tied at two with Stonehill College, but the Skyhawks scored four third period goals to secure a 6-2 non-conference victory over the Rams at the Foxboro Sports Center.

With the win, the Skyhawks improve to 10-5-3 on the season, while the loss drops the Rams to 3-12-2.

The Rams grabbed the lead just over nine minutes into the game on Peter Mingus' unassisted marker, his third of the season.  52 seconds later the Skyhawks' Garrett White answered with the game tying tally.  Thomas Jenkins gave the hosts their first lead of the day (2-1) with just over three minutes remaining in the first.

The Rams Sean Parker found the back of the net at 14:56 of the second for the period's only score tying the game at 2-2 after two.  The goal was Parker's first of the season and first of his career.

The third period was all Skyhawks as they took the lead for good just 30 seconds into the frame with a power play tally from Richard Harris and added three more in the final minute to reach the final differential.

Each team was called for five penalties and spent 10 minutes in the box with the Skyhawks capitalizing on one of their four power plays, while the Rams went 0-for-4 with the man advantage. 

Stonehill outshot Framingham 35-29 in the game.  Chris Tasiopoulos picked up the victory making 27 saves, while Alessio Muggli (Rueti, Switzerland) was tagged with the loss making 29 stops.

The Rams are back in action on Tuesday night at Fitchburg State at 7:30 p.m.
