Both teams skated to a scoreless 1st period. The Rams opened the scoring 8 minutes into the 2nd when Ricky O'Connor (North Andover) put one past the Lancers keeper to put the Rams up 1-0. Just over 4 minutes later the Rams struck again when Jay Nicholls (Middleton) sent a soft shot from the faceoff circle towards the net that trickled past the WSU goalie and across the goal line.

The Lancers got on the board with less than a minute to play in the second when Vinny Bohn (Spring Hill, FL) collected a rebound off the Rams goalie and sent it into the back of the net.

After skating for nearly nineteen minutes without another score the Lancers pulled their goalie and Melvin Nichols (Alexandria, VA) sent a shot into the empty goal to put the Rams up 3-1 with just over one minute to play.

The Lancers called timeout 19:32 into the period and pulled their goalie again. With the extra skater in the play, Michael Dery (Grand Rapids, MI) closed the gap back to one putting a loose puck in the net after a scramble in front. The Lancers could not generate another legitimate chance.
