Men’s Ice Hockey Falls 6-4 at Westfield State

WESTFIELD, Mass.  – Freshman Nik Passero (Fort Erie, Ont.) scored a pair of goals to lead Westfield State to  6-4 win over Framingham State in the Owls ice hockey home opener at Amelia Park on Tuesday night.

Westfield jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one period, with Passero scoring the third goal on a backhander off a centering pass from Dave O'Connor (Manchester, Conn.).
Westfield grabbed a 4-0 lead 4:20 into the second period when Cody Campbell-Rich (Bellingham, Wash.)  unloaded a wrister from the right face-off circle.
The Owls PJ McCadden (Mount Sinai, N.Y.)  tallied with 4:47 left in the period to give Westfield a 5-1 lead, but Framingham responded with a pair of goals in the final 1:13 of the period, first on breakaway by Cameron Hoffman (Fort Stevens, Wash.) , then senior Dean Cavicchi (Plymouth, Mass.) found the back of the net with 18 seconds left to cut the lead to 5-3 after two periods.

Passero gave Westfield some breathing room 6:47 into the third period, converting off the rebound of a Roman Pfennings (Grefrath, Germany) shot to give Westfield a 6-3 lead.  

Framingham cut the lead back to two, 6-4,. On a Ryan MacDonald (Anchorage, Ak.) goal with 9:26 left in the game, but could get no closer. 

Senior goalie Ian Perrier stopped 27 shots for Westfield.  Rob Meadows (Shelby Township, Mich.) started in goal for Framingham and allowed four goals in 24:20 of play against 14 saves, while Matt Crescione (West Hempstead, N.Y.) came on in relief and stopped 21 of the 23 shots he faced.

Westfield improves to 3-1, 1-0 in the MASCAC.  Framingham falls to 0-2-1, 0-1-1 in the MASCAC.

The Rams return to action on Saturday, November 15th when the Rams travel to Salem State for a 2:00 p.m. faceoff.
