Framingham, Mass. – The Fitchburg State University ice hockey team scored eight unanswered goals including three power play markers as the Falcons defeated the Framingham State University Rams 8-2 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this afternoon at Framingham's Loring Arena.

With the win, the Falcons improve to 8-9 on the year and 5-5 in the MASCAC, while the Rams dip to 7-7-2 overall and 5-4-2 in the conference.

Junior Craig Halpin (Irvington, NY) and sophomore Max Lorenzen (Leesburg, VA) led the Falcons with four points apiece. Halpin recorded a goal and three assists, while Lorenzen picked up four helpers.  Freshman Jake Martin (Montreal, Que.) recorded a hat trick, while sophomore Timmy Genova (Smithtown, NY) chipped in with a pair of goals.

The Rams jumped out to a 2-0 lead just over four minutes into the game, but it was all the Falcons after that as they tied the score at 2-2 after one. They erupted for four second period goals including the game winner from John Celli just 28 seconds into the frame.  Martin would tack on a pair of third period goals to reach the final margin.

Fitchburg State outshot the Rams 50-40 in the game and converted 3-of-9 power plays, while the Rams were 0-for-5 with the man advantage.  Juniors Ryan Wysocki (Grand Rapids, MI) and Dan Finn (Fitchburg, Mass.) combined to make 38 saves for the Falcons to secure the win.  Senior Nick Cafrelli (San Jose, CA) was tagged with the loss surrendering five goals and making 20 saves before giving way to freshman Alessio Muggli (Rueti, Switzerland) who allowed three goals while making 22 stops.

The Rams are back in action on Tuesday evening when they host Franklin Pierce in a non-conference game beginning at 7:20 p.m., while the Falcons are back to conference action on Thursday evening at Salem State at 7 p.m.
