Auburn, Mass. - Framingham State University junior forward Brendan McCarron (Millbury, Mass.) registered a pair of goals to go along with an assist to lift the Rams past Worcester State, 4-2, in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) men's ice hockey action this evening at Horgan Memorial Rink.

The Rams (7-6-2, 5-3-2 MASCAC) staked the early 1-0 lead when junior Ryan McDonald (Anchorage, AK) netted a short-handed goal at the 5:33 mark of the opening period.

McCarron then lit the lamp with a pair of power play scores one in each of the final two periods to give Framingham State a healthy 3-0 advantage. The first came at the 4:05 mark in the second stanza before he recorded the eventual game-winning tally at 4:26 of the final frame.

Worcester State (6-7-1, 2-6-1 MASCAC) finally mustered some offense to get on the board as the two teams registered three goals over a 50 second span making the score 4-2 with 7:05 remaining in the contest.

Freshman Alex Dewitz (Oronoco, MN) continued his stellar play as of late when he found the back of the net at the 12:05 mark of the final period.

Ram senior Dean Cavicchi (Plymouth, Mass.) answered the call as he slapped home a rebounded shot for the 4-1 advantage at the 12:40 mark before WSU junior Andrew Bates (Marblehead, Mass.) got the puck over the goal line just 15 ticks later.

Framingham State buckled down on defense with help from senior goaltender Nick Cafrelli (San Jose, CA) who recorded numerous saves over the final minutes to preserve the win.

Cafrelli registered 31 saves improving his record to 6-6-2 while Worcester State sophomore Salvatore Tecci (Franklin, Mass.) stopped 36 shots in the defeat and saw his record fall to 4-5-1 on the season.

Framingham State led in shots on goal 40-33 and also recorded two power play goals on nine chances while the Blue and Gold went 0-for-6 with the man advantage.

Both squads return to action Saturday as Worcester State travels to Plymouth State at 6 p.m. and Framingham State returns home to face-off with Fitchburg State at 2:30 p.m.
