North Dartmouth, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's hockey team defeated visiting Framingham State 3-1 in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) game at the Stephan Hetland Memorial Ice Arena Saturday.

The Corsairs came out of the gates quickly.  They jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the opening period.  First, senior forward Nick Marquis (Londonderry, NH) finished off a flurry from in front of Framingham State goalie Nick Cafrelli (San Jose, CA) at 3:46 assisted by junior forward Greg Girtatos (Tyngsboro, Mass.) and senior forward Dave McDonald (Wakefield, Mass.).  The second goal came via the power play as a pretty feed from freshman forward Swann Boisvert (Blainville, QC) found senior forward Phil Bronner (Wilbraham, Mass.) who put it past Cafrelli at 5:26. McDonald picked up his second assist on the tally.

The Rams would cut the deficit in half just before the period ended. After back to back penalties gave Framingham State a two-man advantage, the Rams capitalized on the opportunity when junior defenseman Bo Driscoll (Chelmsford, Mass.) found the back of the net at 19:25, beating Corsairs senior goalie Ryan Williams (Milton, ON), assisted by sophomore defenseman Dylan Cosford (Windsor, ON) and sophomore forward Brendan McCarron (Millbury, Mass.).

The teams played a scoreless second period despite the Corsairs outshooting the Rams, 21-4, in the middle frame.

UMass Dartmouth would get an empty netter with just 52 seconds to play in the contest to account for the final margin.  Senior forward Dan Dempsey (Norwell, Mass.) scored, assisted by sophomore forward Shaun Walters (Plymouth, MI).

The Corsairs outshot the Rams, 43-27. Williams made 26 saves for UMD, while junior Cafrelli made 40 saves for Framingham State.

UMass Dartmouth improved to 7-6-4 and 6-3-3 in the MASCAC with the victory, while Framingham State is now 2-15-1 and 0-11-1 in the MASCAC. The Corsairs will return to action when they host Stonehill Tuesday evening. The Rams will visit Fitchburg State next Thursday.
