Ice Hockey Snaps Skid with 5-4 Win at FPU

Winchendon, Mass. – The Framingham State University ice hockey team snapped a five game losing streak with a 5-4 victory over Franklin Pierce University in non-conference action to open the second half of the season this evening.

Five different Rams tallied goals as the visitors improved to 2-9 on the year and the Ravens fell to 4-5-1.

Junior Eric Ward (Haverhill, Mass.) tied the game at 1-all at 12:03 of the first period off an assist from Jay Nichols before a tally from sophomore Ryan McDonald (Anchorage, AK) put the Rams on top 2-1 with just over five minutes remaining in the first.

Franklin Pierce tied the score and went ahead with goals in the 7th and 9th minutes of the second, before a pair of Framingham goals put the Rams on top to close the period.  Senior Eric Walsh (Haverhill, Mass.) scored in the 17th minutes and junior Daniel Miressj (Monroe, Conn.) tallied a power play goal and his team-leading marker with 42 seconds remaining in the second.

Franklin Pierce tied the game midway through the third, but senior Ben Pacific (Marlborough, Mass.) scored the game winner with just over three minutes remaining to seal the victory for the Rams.

The Ravens outshot the Ram 34-27 in the game, but junior Nick Cafrelli (San Jose, CA) made 30 saves to record the victory in his first start this season for the Rams.
