Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University ice hockey team surrendered a pair of power play goals as they were defeated 2-1 this evening by Assumption College in non-conference action at Loring Arena.

With the win, the Greyhounds improve to 2-10 on the season, while the Rams fall to 1-6.

Assumption got on the board first with a power play goal late in the first period.  Freshman Trevor Loiseau (South Grafton, Mass.) fired a shot from the point that FSU goalkeeper Dale Adams (Gardner, Mass.) saved.  Sophomore Brennen Shaw (Presque Isle, ME) was there to tip the rebound to junior Jon Baldwin (Malden, Mass.) and Baldwin slipped it into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead at the 16:45 mark.

The Rams appeared to tie the score in the final minute of play in the first, but junior Daniel Miressi (Monroe, Conn.) was called for a high stick as he deflected the puck into the net off a shot from senior Bo Driscoll (Chelmsford, Mass.) negating the score.

The game would remain 1-0 in favor of the visitors until midway through the second when the Rams were finally able to capitalize on a scoring chance.  Junior Daniel Miressi (Monroe, Conn.) sent a shot on net that sophomore Ryan McDonald (Anchorage, AK) deflected under the Greyhound goalkeeper for his fifth of the season.  Junior Jay Nicholls (Middleton, Mass.) also picked up an assist on the game tying tally.

Assumption would take the lead for good just under six minutes into the third on their second power play goal of the game.  Sophomore Trevor Plante (Blackstone, Mass.) sent a crossing pass to junior Kyle Zobler (Millbury, Mass.) on the right side and Zobler snapped a shot into the corner for the game winner and his second of the season.

The Rams could not find the back of the net down the stretch, but their best chance came with just under six minutes remaining in the game when Miressi carried the puck into the offensive zone, made a move and slapped a shot on net.  Greyhound goalie Chris Hemhauser (Old Saybrook, Conn.) came up with the big save to preserve the win.

The Rams outshot the Greyhounds 43-36 in the game including a 19-4 edge in the second period, but Hemhauser made 42 saves and recorded the victory between the pipes.  Adams finished the game with 34 saves for the Rams but was tagged with the loss.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Stonehill College at 7 p.m., while the Greyhounds close out first semester action when they host Southern New Hampshire on Tuesday at 6:05 p.m.
