Ice Hockey Stopped by UMass Boston

Boston, Mass. – The Framingham State University ice hockey team surrendered four second period goals as they were defeated 9-4 by the University of Massachusetts Boston this evening in non-conference action.

With the win, the Beacons are now 3-2-1 on the season, while the Rams fall to 0-4.

Junior forward Daniel Miressi (Monroe, Conn.) tallied a pair of goals for the Rams, while classmate Eric Ward (Haverhill, Mass.) and sophomore Ryan McDonald (Anchorage, AK) each chipped in two assists.

Miressi put the Rams on top just 5:11 into the game, but the Beacons answered with a pair of goals to take a 2-1 lead after one.

The Rams tied the game on a power play goal by Miressi just over five minutes into the second period.  It was all UMass Boston after that as they tallied three goals in a seven minute span to take a 5-2 lead.  Senior Eric Walsh (Haverhill, Mass.) pulled the Rams back within two with his first goal of the season at 18:44 of the second, but UMass Boston's Peter MacIntyre completed the hat trick at 19:10 of the second to push the lead back to three.

Two more goals by the Beacons in the opening minutes of the third pushed the lead to 8-3.  Junior Jay Nicholls (Middleton, Mass.) tallied his second of the season at 13:19, but Mike DeGrazia would complete his hat trick at 16:56 of the third to reach the final margin.

Sophomore Dale Adams (Gardner, Mass.) made 44 saves for the Rams as the Beacons held a 53-27 advantage in shots for the game.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday evening with a non-conference game at Southern New Hampshire at 7:30 p.m.
