Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University ice hockey team was held to just two shots in the third period as the Salem State University Vikings held on for a slim 2-1 victory this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) men's ice hockey action at Framingham's Loring Arena.

With the win the Vikings improve to 5-2-1 on the season and 3-1-1 in the conference which places them in a second place tie with UMass Dartmouth in the MASCAC standings, while the Rams fall to 1-5-2 overall and 1-3-1 in the MASCAC.

Salem State took a 1-0 lead just under nine minutes into the first period on senior forward Ian Flanagan's (New Hampton, NH) second goal of the season.  Juniors Nick Lampson (Groton, Mass.) and Derek Crocker (Wakefield, Mass.) picked up the assists.

The Rams answered with the game tying goal with 4:32 remaining in the first when sophomore Tom Tracy (Wakefield, Mass.) fed the puck to classmate Daniel Roy (Billerica, Mass.) and Roy found the back of the net with his first of the season.  The game would head into the first break knotted at 1-1.

The Vikings struck for the eventual game winner 9:08 into the second period as Lampson tallied his fifth of the season with Tom Mahoney (Braintree, Mass.) and Kyle Phelan (Barnstable, Mass.) assisting on the goal.

The Vikings would maintain the one goal edge throughout the third period as they controlled the puck for most of the frame.  They outshot the Rams 12-2 in the final 20 minutes and maintained possession of the puck in the closing minutes of the game forcing the Rams to keep their goalie in net.

For the game, the Vikings held a 44-22 edge in shots with neither team capitalizing on the power play as the Vikings went 0-for-8 and the Rams 0-for-6.

Sophomore Ryan Sutliffe picked up his third victory of the season in goal making 21 saves for Salem State, while sophomore Nick Cafrelli (San Jose, CA) made 42 stops for the Rams.
