Ice Hockey Breaks into Win Column with 5-3 Victory over Worcester State

Auburn, Mass. – The Framingham State University ice hockey team picked up their first victory of the season tonight with a 5-3 triumph over Worcester State University in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) men's ice hockey action at Horgan Arena.

With the win, the Rams are now 1-4-1 on the season and 1-2-1 in the conference, while the Lancers fall to 2-4-2 overall and 0-3-1 in the MASCAC.

Sophomore forward Daniel Miressi (Monroe, Conn.) led the Rams with four points in the game on a goal and three assists, while senior Jon Vaillancourt (La Valle, WI) chipped in two points on a goal and an assist.

Worcester State took a 1-0 lead midway through the first period on Stephen Rock's second goal of the season off assists from Nathan Stanley and Derek Serbon.  The Lancers maintained the one goal lead until the closing minute of the period when junior Ben Pacific (Marlboro, Mass.) tallied his first goal of the season at 19:04.  Miressi and sophomore Bo Driscoll (Chelmsford, Mass.) picked up the assists.

The Lancers retook the lead just 4:34 into the second when Tim D'Orazio scored off a pass from John Cahalane, but the Rams answered two minutes later with the game tying goal. Senior defenseman Tom Manning (Rockland, Mass.) scored his first of the season with Miressi and sophomore Eric Ward (Haverhill, Mass.) assisting.

In the closing minutes of the second Miressi gave the Rams their first lead of the game on his team leading third goal of the season. Vaillancourt and Daniel Roy (Billerica, Mass.) assisted on the go ahead tally.

Worcester tied the score just 1:24 into the third on the fourth goal of the season by Serbon, but freshman forward Ryan McDonald (Anchorage, AK) would put the Rams in the lead for good with his goal at 5:40.  Miressi once again assisted along with freshman Brendan McCarron (Millbury, Mass.).  Vaillancourt would add an empty net goal in the final minute to reach the final score of 5-3.

The Rams outshot the Lancers 38-32 in the game and were 1-for-3 on the power play while the Lancers were 0-of-6.  Sophomore Nick Cafrelli (San Jose, CA) picked up the win in goal for the Rams making 29 saves, while Bryan Kalczynski picked up the loss for the Lancers making 33 stops.

The Rams return to action next Tuesday night December 6th when they host Stonehill College at Loring Arena at 7:20 p.m., while the Lancers host Plymouth State on Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
