Ice Hockey Upended by UMass Boston

Framingham, Mass. – Senior forwards Anthony Fitti and Jim Ennis tallied a pair of goals and picked up a pair of assists apiece to lead the University of Massachusetts Boston Beacons to a 9-1 win this evening over the Framingham State University ice hockey team in non-conference action at Loring Arena.

With the win, the Beacons improve to 2-4 on the season, while the loss drops the Rams to 0-4.

UMass Boson wasted no time getting on the board as Ennis scored his first of the game and third of the season just 1:42 into the contest.  Just under four minutes later senior Andrew Burke would score what proved to be the game-winner off assists from Fitti and Ennis.  Junior Mike DeGrazia extended the Beacons lead to 3-0 at 9:23 of the first with a power play goal.

Sophomore Eric Ward (Haverhill, Mass.) got the Rams on the board just 20 seconds later with his first goal of the season off an assist from classmate Daniel Miressi (Monroe, Conn.).  That was as close as the Rams would get as John Hubbard scored in the closing minutes of the first putting the Beacons back up by three.

In the second period, Ennis tallied his second of the game just a minute in driving the Rams goalkeeper from the game.  Chris Preziosi scored at 4:55 and Fitti scored his first at 12:52 to give the Beacons a 7-1 lead after two. In the third, Fitti added his second and Taylor Juneau scored in the closing minute to reach the final margin.

The Beacons outshot the Rams 50-18 in the game.  Alex Scola picked up the win in net for the Beacons making 11 saves in two periods of work, while Matt Meisenbacher made six saves in a period of relief.  Senior Todd Rowley (Billerica, Mass.) made 14 saves for the Rams surrendering five goals before giving way to sophomore Dale Adams (Gardner, Mass.) who made 27 saves.

The Rams return to action Tuesday night against Fitchburg State at Loring Arena at 7:20 p.m., while the Beacons face Worcester State at the P.A.L. Tournament on Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
