Framingham, Mass. – The Westfield State University ice hockey team used two second period goals to pick up a 3-1 victory this evening over the Framingham State University ice hockey team in  Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) men's ice hockey action at Loring Arena.

With the win, the Owls improve to 2-2-2 on the year and 1-1-1 in the MASCAC, while the Rams fall to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

The Rams jumped out to a 1-0 lead just eight minutes into the game. Sophomore Daniel Miressi (Monroe, Conn.) penetrated the offensive zone and hit senior Corey Chaney (Flint, MI) with a pass that Chaney laid off too freshman Ryan McDonald (Anchorage, AK).  McDonald found the back of the net for his first collegiate goal.

The Rams would maintain the 1-0 advantage into the first intermission, but it took the Owls just 1:58 into the second period to tie the score.  Framingham State was called for a penalty at 1:52 and just six seconds later off the faceoff junior Lucas Romero scored for the Owls.  Sebastien Poirier and Vince Perreault assisted on the Romero tally.

The Owls took the lead for good late in the second on Billy Miller's unassisted goal at 16:59.  Miller lifted a shot from the left side that was perfectly placed just under the cross bar.

The Owls would add an insurance goal midway through the third as Poirier scored off assists from Romero and Taylor Murphy to reach the final margin of 3-1.

The Owls held a slim 31-29 edge in shots on goal for the game.  Sophomore Eddie Davey picked up the win in net for Owls making 28 saves, sophomore Nick Cafrelli (San Jose, CA) made 26 saves for the Rams.

The Rams return to action Tuesday night with a non-conference game against the University of Massachusetts Boston at Loring Arena at 7:20 p.m., while the Owls host Amherst on Tuesday at 7:35 p.m.
