Ice Hockey Closes Regular Season with 3-2 Loss to Conference Leader UMass Dartmouth

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University ice hockey team dropped a heartbreaker at home tonight as the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Corsairs scored three third period goals to defeat the Rams 3-2 in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) matchup.    

With the win, Corsairs improve to 17-6-1 on the year remaining atop the MASCAC standings at 12-4-1, while the Rams end the season 4-18-1 overall and 4-13-1 in the conference.

The Rams took a 1-0 lead just six minutes into the game on freshman forward Eric Ward's (Haverhill, Mass.) ninth goal of the season.  The Rams leading scorer, freshman Daniel Miressi (Monroe, CT) assisted on the goal along with sophomore Ben Pacific (Marlborough, Mass.)

The Rams would hold the 1-0 lead through the first two periods as senior goalie Terence Sullivan (Shirley, Mass.), who finished with 24 saves, turned away all 19 shots the Corsairs fired his way. 

UMass Dartmouth came out of the locker room and started the third period on fire scoring two goals in the first three minutes.  Sophomore Dave McDonald (Wakefield, Mass.) scored just 1:26 into the period to tie the score at 1-1 and senior Jason Stahl (Londonderry, NH) scored at 2:46 giving the Corsairs their first lead of the game (2-1).

The Rams would regroup and knot the score at 2-2 midway through the period on freshman Peter Baldwin's (Port Williams, Nova Scotia) third goal of the season. Tom Manning (Rockland, Mass.) assisted on the goal along with Miressi who picked up his second assist of the game.

The tie would not last long as just over two minutes later senior Joe Hill (Newburyport, Mass.) scored the game winning goal for the Corsairs.

UMass Dartmouth goalie Collin Tracy (Medford, Mass.) picked up the win in net as he made 23 saves in the game including 13 in the third period.

The Corsairs close out their regular season on Saturday at Fitchburg State at 4 p.m.
